CryoPen® Cryotherapy
Precision Skin Lesion Removal at SIC Aesthetics Banbridge
Advanced cryotherapy for the targeted treatment of suitable benign skin lesions.
At SIC Aesthetics Banbridge, we are pleased to introduce CryoPen®, an advanced cryotherapy device designed to treat a range of benign skin lesions quickly, precisely and with minimal disruption to the surrounding skin.
CryoPen® uses controlled freezing technology to target unwanted skin lesions, offering a convenient, minimally invasive treatment without surgical cutting or stitches.
Whether you're concerned about a skin tag, wart or another benign skin growth, CryoPen® may offer a suitable treatment option following a professional assessment.
How Does CryoPen® Work?
CryoPen® uses a fine, controlled jet of extremely cold nitrous oxide (N₂O) to freeze targeted skin tissue.
The rapid cooling damages cells within the lesion, causing the treated tissue to gradually break down and be naturally shed as the skin heals.
The precision applicator allows treatment to be focused on a small area, helping minimise unnecessary exposure of surrounding healthy skin.
The CryoPen® Treatment Process
1. Consultation & Skin Assessment
Before treatment, we carefully examine the skin lesion to determine whether CryoPen® is suitable. If the lesion requires further evaluation, we may recommend our MapMyMole skin screening service first, where detailed dermoscopic images are reviewed by a UK-based consultant dermatologist. Any suspicious or uncertain lesions must receive appropriate medical assessment before removal is considered.
2. Precision Cryotherapy
Once the lesion has been appropriately assessed and confirmed suitable for treatment, CryoPen® delivers a precise, controlled jet of extremely cold nitrous oxide directly to the targeted area, freezing the unwanted tissue while minimising unnecessary exposure of surrounding healthy skin.
3. Natural Healing Process
Following treatment, the area may become slightly red, swollen or tender. Over the following days, the lesion may darken, blister or form a small scab. The treated tissue gradually sheds as new skin develops underneath.
4. Aftercare & Follow-Up
We provide clear aftercare instructions to support healing and minimise complications. Some lesions may require additional treatment depending on their size, type, depth and response. Where necessary, a follow-up appointment can be arranged to assess healing and treatment results.
What Can CryoPen® Treat?
CryoPen® may be suitable for a range of confirmed benign skin lesions, including:
Skin tags: Small, soft, harmless skin growths commonly found around the neck, underarms and areas of friction.
Common warts: Benign skin growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), often affecting the hands and fingers.
Verrucae: Warts affecting the soles of the feet, which can sometimes become uncomfortable when walking.
Seborrhoeic keratoses: Common, non-cancerous skin growths that may have a raised, rough or waxy appearance.
Cherry angiomas: Small, benign red or purple vascular skin growths.
Solar lentigines (sun spots): Flat areas of increased pigmentation associated with sun exposure, where suitability has been established following appropriate assessment.
Important: Not every lesion is suitable for cryotherapy. Treatment is only offered when the lesion has been appropriately assessed and is confirmed to be benign. Suspicious, changing, bleeding or undiagnosed lesions require medical assessment rather than cosmetic removal.
Benefits of CryoPen® Treatment
Precision treatment
The fine applicator allows targeted freezing of small skin lesions, helping limit unnecessary treatment of surrounding skin.
Quick appointments
Many individual lesions can be treated in a short appointment, although consultation and treatment time vary.
No surgical cutting or stitches
CryoPen® is a non-surgical treatment that generally does not require incisions or sutures.
Minimal downtime
Most patients can return to normal everyday activities shortly after treatment, while following the recommended aftercare instructions.
Natural healing process
The treated tissue gradually sheds as the skin repairs itself.
Suitable for different lesion types
CryoPen® offers a versatile treatment option for a selection of benign skin concerns.
Does CryoPen® Hurt?
Most patients tolerate CryoPen® treatment well.
During freezing, you may experience a brief stinging, tingling or burning sensation. The area may feel tender afterwards, but discomfort is usually temporary.
Sensitivity varies depending on the location, size and type of lesion being treated.
What Happens After Treatment?
Following CryoPen® treatment, it is normal to experience some temporary skin changes.
First few hours: Mild redness, swelling, tenderness or stinging may occur.
Following days: The treated area may darken, blister or develop a scab.
Healing stage: The scab gradually separates as new skin forms underneath. Avoid picking, scratching or bursting blisters.
Healing time varies between individuals and treatment areas. Some lesions may take several weeks to heal fully.
Once the skin has healed, the area may temporarily appear pink, lighter or darker than the surrounding skin. Occasionally, pigment changes or scarring may be permanent.
We provide detailed aftercare guidance to help patients care for their skin following treatment.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Some small lesions may respond to a single CryoPen® session.
However, larger, deeper or more resistant lesions, particularly warts and verrucae, may require additional sessions.
Treatment results cannot be guaranteed, and some lesions may persist or return.
Your practitioner will discuss realistic expectations during your consultation.
Your Safety Comes First
At SIC Aesthetics Banbridge, patient safety and appropriate skin assessment are central to our approach.
We do not treat suspicious or undiagnosed skin lesions with CryoPen®.
Where appropriate, our MapMyMole skin screening service can provide dermoscopic images for review by a UK-based consultant dermatologist. This service supports further assessment but does not replace an in-person medical examination or diagnosis when one is needed.
Any lesion requiring medical investigation will be referred for appropriate assessment before cosmetic treatment is considered.
